That's a Lot of Water
If somebody accused you of living in a watershed, you'd probably turn up your nose and deny it.
But the truth is that everybody lives in one watershed or anotherin our area, it's the
region that drains into the San Francisco Bayand our actions within the watershed affect
water quality and the environment.
The San Lorenzo Creek watershed was the topic of a recent 12-minute video we produced for
Natural Resources Conservation Services in Livermore and the Alameda County Resource Conservation
District. The educational piece, titled "Flight Through the Watershed," was designed to help
people understand what watersheds are and how we affect them.
The video utilizes lots of breathtaking aerial footage and ground shots of the San Lorenzo
Creek watershed, which spans 50 square miles in the East Bay. Grasses ripple in the breeze
and cows gallop majestically through verdant hills to convince viewers that the well-being of
the whole watershed depends on their actions and conservation efforts. The video also uses
2-D animation to illustrate and define the six zones of the San Lorenzo Creek watershed:
Grassland, Woodland, Urban, Riparian, Wetland, and Bay.
The program, which will be shown primarily to community groups in the San Lorenzo Creek
watershed area, was written and produced by Siiri Tuckwood and directed by Tim George. Aaron
Dingman created all graphics and animation for the piece.
Tam is also beginning production on a second watershed video for the same clientsthis
one designed for a fourth-grade audience.
